Up for the Challenge

Today all of the fifth grade students participated in the American Math Challenge.  This challenge is our practice run for the World Math Day Challenge in March.  The students answered many math problems and are gaining in their math fluency (in spite of computer issues… 🙁   Hopefully we won’t have these issues for World Math Day in March!)  Check back soon to see a list of the leaders from Laurelville!

Time for a Break!

pumpkin show picWow…it’s finally here!   Logan Elm students (and teachers) are beginning their five-day break for the 104th Circleville Pumpkin Show!  Also known as THE GREATEST FREE SHOW ON EARTH, this event attracts THOUSANDS of visitors each day. The streets of downtown Circleville are lined with rides, games, and every food item that you can think of-all made with pumpkin of course!  There are also parades, contests, and entertainment for everyone to enjoy.  Not to mention giant pumpkins-last year’s winner weighed in at 1635.5 pounds!  (YES… I typed that correctly!)  The Circleville Pumpkin Show is a much treasured tradition for many of the local people and anticipated with much excitement!

It is a tradition that my family enjoys. One of our favorite things to do is to watch the parades-our favorite parades are the Miss Pumpkin Show parade and the pet parade!  What is your favorite thing about the Pumpkin Show?  Do you have a favorite ride or food item that you like to eat?  Someone that you look forward to seeing during the Show?

Star Students!

I have been very pleased with the fifth grade class so far this year!  They are working hard and giving their best effort.  Many students are also doing extra math at home on IXL or TutpupstustarFifth grade students have completed over 40,000 math problems on IXL so far this year (Lexi is leading fifth grade-she has done 1,961 problems)!

I thought I would also take a second to recognize some students who have really been standing out in Math class lately! I see a future teaching career in Jessica and Trinity.  They have been a tremendous help in Math class in helping others.  Allen, new to Laurelville, has been settling in to a new school and really working hard!  There have also been several fifth graders who have voluntarily given up their recess time or their special to work on their school work:   Tristan, April, and Ceara

Way to go to these students and ALL of the fifth graders!  This has been such a great start to the year!  You make coming to school such a treat!  🙂
