Welcome!

Welcome to our class blog!  If you are here from the Student Blogging Challenge, we hope that you stick around for a while and make yourself at home!  Check out our posts and our student blogs to get to know a little bit about us.   Each student also has their own individual blog where they write about books they are reading or other things that interest them. You will find their blogs listed on the side blogroll.

We would also love to know a little about you, so PLEASE take a moment and comment.    Feel free to tell us where you are from, what your school is like, some of your favorite activities, or anything else that you would like to share with us.

We are looking forward to connecting with you!

Coach Smith’s Advice

Yesterday, Mr. Rod Smith, aka “Coach” said goodbye to his students for the last time.  Coach is now officially retired after 35 years of teaching for Logan Elm Schools.  He had a huge impact on many students over those years and is known for his humorous anecdotes.  He recently shared a paper with his students titled “Coach Smith’s Advice”.  I thought it would be fitting for everyone to read….

Coach Smith’s Advice

1.  Do what’s right–“the right thing to do”
2. When you are in high school, if you like to do something a whole lot, see if you can make a living doing it.
3.  When Mamma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy.
4.  Clean the house now and then without being told/no matter the age.
5.  Mow the yard without being told/no matter the age.
6.  Open doors for women/girls—girls should say thank you OR give that smile.
7.  Always get your Mom and Dad something for birthdays, Christmas, and Mother’s and Father’s Day.
8.  Do not walk between people when they are talking.
9.  When someone is talking, you be quiet, it doesn’t mean you have to listen.
10.  MEN-LOOK YOUR BRIDE IN THE EYE.
11.  WOMEN-DO NOT GIGGLE OR LAUGH DURING YOUR WEDDING VOWS.
12.  Use a firm handshake and look them in the eyes.
13.  If you have a problem with someone-go to them-do not talk behind their backs.
14.  Don’t crank on the lawn mower with the oil cap off.
15.  Remember that computers can be traced, don’t write or look at something that you don’t want others to see or know you saw.
16.  Don’t steer into a slide on ice or wet snow.
17.  Hug your parents and children, you never know what happens tomorrow.
18.  Go to Sunday School/when you are parents, get your kids there.
19.  Be nice, but stand up for what you believe in.
20.  BOYS–Never hit a girl, never, no excuses
         GIRLS–Know when to shut up
21.  It isn’t necessary to look behind the counter at fast food places.
22.  Remember who you dislike today could be your boss tomorrow.
23.  What you think is acceptable clothing and attire might not be.
24.  Yell “Fore”
25.  Don’t put your mouth on the water fountain dispenser, don’t put your old gum in the water fountain.
26.  FLUSH…………
27.  Some things in life you really hate to do, but you have to do it because it’s the right thing to do.
28.  Some people go crazy when they hear we give money to charities, church and school—–Who’s crazy????
29.  Laugh, smile and be happy, before you know it, you will also be 49(*).

*I should note that Coach Smith is now 60.  🙂
