Getting into the groove?

Well, this has been the first full week of the school year.  Most fifth grade students are getting into the groove of being fifth graders and all of the responsibility that it involves.   Fifth grade is a year of many changes for the students as they are asked to be more independent and responsible for themselves.  It is a difficult transition for many.  How do you think your child  is doing in the fifth grade? Please talk with them and see what they think of their school year so far.  If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to let us know so we can help!

All students (and parents) are able to check  grades now on engrade.   Some students are still learning how missing assignments affect their grades.  Please check your child’s grades and assignment books on a regular basis!

This week in Math class we have been working on plotting points on a coordinate plane.  We also started talking about different parts of a circle. One of the skills that fifth graders need to do is to find the circumference of a circle. The circumference of a circle = Π x diameter.   To review for this, we reviewed multiplication today of 2 and 3-digit numbers by 1 and 2-digit numbers.  Several students had difficulty with this, even though it was worked on in the fourth grade.  Please check with your child and see if they can correctly multiply larger numbers.

I hope to see many grandfriends tomorrow for our annual Grandfriends Day Picnic!
