School lunch, what are students thoughts on it?

I’m Mac from Macadamia Nut News and I asked students around my school what their thoughts were on school lunch. Most of them said they utterly hated it and thought it was terrible, one of my friends Brett, said that the only thing he liked was the chicken nuggets. There was one person I asked who thought it was fine, Lindsay. She was really the only person who said they liked it.

Now in my eyes only some of the lunches are okay. The drumsticks and tomato soup is okay but the rest is a no-no from me. Like the pizza days are the worst days to be buying because the pizza really isn’t good at all. The thing is though is that most of the time I’m packing and I don’t have to experience the school lunch when it comes time. I  1`my nephew Bentley what his thoughts were on his school lunch, he said that it was disgusting and that the food he had today should’ve been cooked longer.

That was my news report from Macadamia Nut News, the overall consensus was that school lunch is bad. Now I want you to tell me what your views on your school lunch is. Is it good? Is it bad? What do you think they could do better? Anyway that’s all I have to say, just remember traveler, be nice to all you meet! Mac signing out!

History of Winter Sports

McDowell supports many sports such as wrestling and basketball in the winter. Wrestling is a sport in the winter that McDowell supports. The sport of wrestling is a physical sport. Wrestling originated in Greece. Also wrestling is in the epic Iliad and is in the Olympic games. Wrestling is one of the oldest forms of combat. Wrestling  was also a way to teach soldiers hand to hand combat. The main point in wrestling is to hold  your opponent on their back untill the referee to smack the mat.

Let’s talk about the sport basketball. The point of basketball I to out score the other team by making baskets. The sport basketball originated in Springfield Massachusetts U.S. by a man named James Naismith. Earl Lloyd was the first African American basketball player. In 1891 people used wicker baskets as the hoop and a soccer ball as the ball so it was pretty different back then.

So now that I have told you about history of wrestling and basketball please come visit my site at gavinle2025.edublogs.org.

Boredom Busters For Snow Days: Ella Borland

You get a phone call, school is officially off for a snow day.Getting days off school for snow days are fun, but sometimes it can be boring and hard to find fun things to do. Here are 5 fun outdoor boredom busters for a snowy day.

Free-Photos / Pixabay

  •  Go Sledding :Have some hills at your house? Go sledding! If you don’t have anywhere to sled at your house to see if there are any places for tubing around you. Or visit a grandparents house where you could go sledding.

  • Have a snowball fight:Snowball fights are fun for people of all ages. You can even build a snow fort to hide behind!

  • Make a snow sculptor:You could build a snowman! Or a snow castle or even a dragon! This is fun for everyone, including adults. Who says you have to make a snowman, one of my friends parents once made a snow horse that we all took turns sitting on.

  • Build a snow fort:These can be great places to hang out in, away from the wind. Or just a shelter from flying snowballs.

  • Visit a local ice skating rink:If you live close to an ice skating rink I would suggest going. Ice skating is very fun whether you visit an indoor or outdoor rink.

Whether you get out of school for a snow day, or the windchill is to low you might rather spend your time indoors rather than out. Here are 6 fun ideas to try indoors on a snow day!

  •      Make snow ice cream:What’s better than homemade ice cream? Nothing, that’s what. Snow ice cream is an easy to make ice cream that’s made from ( you guessed it) snow, and tastes delicious!

  • Play card and board games:Speed, Clue, Life, Monopoly, Mastermind. Those are just a few fun games that you could play to bid time on snow days.

  • Read or write:What’s better than catching up on reading on a cold day? If you have an AR goal, reading on a snow day is a good way to accumulate AR points so you won’t have to worry about how many points you have later.Writing can also be a good way to get your creativity going on a lazy day.

  • Watch Netflix or other movies:Watching movies is a cozy way to stay warm indoors. You could catch up on a series you are watching on Netflix or Hulu, or just watch a movie.

  • Make a hot beverage:Hot chocolate, tea or any other warm drink is a great way to warm up after playing in the snow!

  • Bake:Whether it’s cookies, brownies, cake pops or another desert, baking is a fun way to spend a cold day.

While it’s snowing outside, there is fun to be had both indoors and out! Whether you enjoy playing in the snow or would rather drink hot chocolate indoors reading, there’s always fun to be had. If you have any other fun activities you like to do on snowy days, please let me know in the comments!

Holidays This Month

    PlushDesignStudio / Pixabay

There are many holidays in this world. Some are even happening this month. These include January 19th is World Religion Day, January 26th is International Customs Day, January 27th is International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. In this post I will summarize what these holidays are about.

January 19th – World Religion Day

This holiday is about celebrating the role of religion in society. Many people celebrate this holiday by gathering with multiple groups of faith. I, for one have never heard of this holiday until now. I like the idea of celebrating faith. This is because this holiday lets you believe in your own faith.

January 26th – International Customs Day

International Customs Day has different themes every year. This years theme is working toward a sustainable future. The slogan for it is: “Customs fostering Sustainability for People, Prosperity and the Planet.”. I enjoy the idea of changing the themes every year. I think that makes the holiday more exciting.

January 27th – International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust

This holiday in particular, is very special. In my opinion at least. The meaning behind it is the name of the holiday itself. It is about commemorating the memory of victims from the Holocaust from the 1940’s. If you don’t know what the Holocaust was, I’ll explain it to you. The Holocaust happened during WWll at a German Internment Camp. Nazis would kill Jews because they thought that they were not worthy. I won’t go into details because children will probably be reading this.

In conclusion, there are many great holidays coming up this month. My personal favorite out of the three is International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. This is because I believe that it was such a horrific time that it deserves to be remembered so that it doesn’t happen again. Be sure to watch out for these holidays this month!

12 Days of Christmas at McDowell

It’s that time of year!  The Christmas season is upon us!  To celebrate this festive time of the year, McDowell Student Council invites students and staff to celebrate the “12 Days of Christmas”.  For each of the remaining 12 days of the school year (as in 2019), there is a fun Christmas theme to help all get into the holiday spirit.

We did it!

To be honest, when I set our goal to be $800, I had no idea if we would be able to collect that much money. It is a large amount of money, but I always try to have high expectations. 😁

And today has proven that when you have high expectations, people step up. They rise to the occasion. 🙌🏼

We have REACHED our goal! Actually, we have surpassed our goal by $0.24! And every penny counts! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

THANK YOU to ALL who helped us to reach our goal! The veterans in our community deserve this and I know our donation will be appreciated! 🇺🇸 #mcdowellstudentsarethebest #bravenation #veterans #supportourveterans

My favorite veteran, my dad. I miss him so much.

Reunited…and it feels pretty good!

In 2015, I created a new blog for my students, McDowell Media.  For four years, my Advanced Language Arts students contributed to the content of that blog.  Although the intention and the focus of the blog varied over those few years, it provided a platform for my students to showcase their writing, collaborate and make connections with others. During that time,  I let Mrs. Caudill’s Classroom Connection go idle while I focused my attention on the new blog.

A few days ago I was exploring Mrs. Caudill’s Classroom Connection, reading old posts and reminiscing. As I was doing this, I realized how much I missed it. Mrs. Caudill’s Classroom Connection was created when I knew absolutely nothing about blogging and computers were just becoming commonplace in my classroom.  I literally had to teach myself how to manage a blog.  Needless to say, the blog received a great deal of my time and attention and the results were well worth it.  It provided a way to connect my classroom with the outside world.

My goal as a teacher is still the same-to showcase my students and to make connections with the world beyond our classroom walls.  There are new platforms, of course, (you can follow me on Twitter @LErdcaudill and also on Instagram @le.rdcaudill) but I have decided that this blog is the blogging platform I need to be using again.

Fun fact:  When I created the URL, I realized that “mrscaudillsclassroomconnection” would be too long so I shortened it to “mrsccc”.   I can remember being so proud of myself for being clever…my husband’s initials are CCC, so it represented a double meaning!  Yes, little things like that amuse me. 🙂

Feel free to check out McDowell Media, to see what former #McDowellstudentsarethebest were up to during those 4 years.

The Week in Review

The last few weeks have been busy.  We have had a lot going on here at McDowell and I am late in posting a week in review.  You could probably say that I have procrastinated, which means I could also relate to Isaac’s post on procrastination.  If you are guilty of putting things off, you would enjoy reading Isaac’s post on McDowell Media.

Last week, in the United States, we celebrated Veterans Day.  On November 11, Americans honor the men and women who have served our country in our armed forces.  Hunter wrote a Veterans Day post after interviewing his dad who is a veteran.  I also wrote a post last year on Veterans Day about my own father, who was a veteran.

In Ohio, we have a lot of white-tailed deer and this weekend is an important weekend for our deer-hunting youth.  You can read Sidney’s post about Youth Gun Season in Ohio for more information.

Please check out McDowell Media for more interesting posts.
