My daughters….

OK, I am going to do a little bit of bragging here…..

My youngest daughter, Molly, has her own blog as a part of Mr. McGuire’s 6th Grade Language Arts class at Laurelville.  She has been working very hard on it and I often find her at the computer at home working on a blog post.  Her posts are well thought-out and well-written.  If you’d like to see an awesome blog, check hers out… Molly’s Mystery Journal.

Mr. McGuire has had his 6th graders blogging for several years now.  My oldest daughter, Hannah, also had the privilege of having Mr. McGuire as her 6th grade Language Arts teacher.  She did very well with her blog, also, and still continues to write on it occasionally.  I don’t want her to feel left out, so please check her blog out, as well….Hannah’s Hideout.

Both girls love reading and have read many books.  If you are looking for a good book to read, you can check out their blogs for a list of books they have read.

On Friday, May 28, Laurelville Elementary hosted its own Relay for Life.  With the help of our wonderful 6th grade class and the overwhelming generosity of the Laurelville community, we were able to raise OVER $4,300 for the fight against cancer!  WOW!  All of the students at Laurelville, family and friends were invited to walk in the Relay in honor or memory of loved ones who have been stricken with this terrifying disease.

On Saturday, June 12, fifth and sixth graders will continue to show their support by partipcipating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life held at the Hocking County Fairgrounds.  Everyone is invited to stop by, walk a lap (or more) and show your support for this cause!  Hope to see you there!

Happy Thanksgiving!

thanksclip_rdax_65Our Thanksgiving break is finally here!  I am thankful that we have 6 days of no school.  Hopefully the break will slow down the spread of the flu bug that has been going around our school!

I hope you all enjoy the break.  I hope you stay healthy, get to eat lots of food and visit with family and friends.  Most of all, I hope you stop to think about all that you have to be thankful for!

I am thankful for my family and friends, my students, my coworkers, and that our family is getting healthy again! 🙂  I am also thankful that I get the opportunity to teach at Laurelville Elementary-the BEST!

Good Luck, LE teams!

brave headWe’d like to wish the very best of luck to the Lady Braves volleyball team in their Division II State semi-final game tonight against Lake Catholic.  This is the first time in school history that our volleyball team has made a Final-4 appearance.  We are very proud of all of these girls.  Two teams members, Rebekha Lucas and Nikki Young  are former Laurelville Elementary students!

The Logan Elm football team also continues in their tournament run this evening against Springfield Shawnee.  We wish them the best of luck, as well, and hope that their season continues!  Former Laurelville Elementary students that are on the football team:  Chris Eversole (senior); Nick Hart, Dustin Fox, and Kyle Eveland (juniors); Eli Dickson and Stephen White (sophomores); and Rod Lucas, Dominick Graham, Nick SheumakerJJ Osborn, and Jesse Kerens (freshmen).

A Laurelville Tradition. . .

Well, we were blessed with yet another beautiful day for our annual Laurelville Halloween parade!  The streets were filled with every type of character you can imagine and MANY of our community members turned out on the streets of Laurelville to watch our students parade through town.  We were also entertained by a wonderful performance of the Logan Elm Marching Band both during the parade and afterwards.  What an exciting day this was for the Laurelville community.  The Laurelville Halloween parade is truly a remarkable tradition.  Enjoy the pictures!

Recycling at Laurelville

recycled>Great news for Laurelville Elementary and our community:  Our school now has 2 paper recycling bins in our parking lot between the office and the library.  These green and yellow PaperRetriever bins will accept ANY paper products to be recycled-magazines, newspapers, school papers, junk mail, etc.  The only thing they DO NOT accept is cardboard.

If you were looking for a way to be more “green”, then this is your opportunity.  Save that junk mail and those newspapers and bring them to Laurelville to put in our recycling bins!  You will be helping our school and our environment! 🙂

Grandfriends are Great!

Today was the Grandfriend’s Day Picnic at Laurelville Elementary. What an absolutely beautiful day to welcome our grandfriends to come and dine with their grandchildren! We certainly could not have asked for more perfect weather. It is always so exciting for our children and the staff at Laurelville to have so many wonderful guests. I hope all that were able to attend enjoyed themselves.

Thanks!

Thanks to all the parents who filled out addresses in those booklets that were sent home.  I know it took some time to complete, but please know that it was well worth it.  Remember, for each booklet that is returned, our school gets $2.25.  Our goal is to raise some more $ for some new technology at Laurelville.  Every booklet that has been returned has helped, so thanks again!

Thanks, also, to Destiny’s C’s grandma.  Destiny let me know that her grandma has been checking out the blog.  I was glad to hear that.  Please continue to check in and leave a comment!

I can’t forget to thank Ashleigh Martin, either.  Ashleigh, the Dove dark chocolate was delicious, and it gave me the idea for the Daily Math Review question that we worked on today!  I appreciate that you were thinking of me!

The wood bowl that Alden Wyckoff made is beautiful.  I’m showing it off on my desk.  Alden, I think you have a future in woodworking (I wonder were you get that from? 😉 )  Thanks.

While I’m thanking everyone, thanks to Lisa Deluse and Susan Young, our volunteers who bravely face the copier each Thursday.  I am so grateful for the time that you save me and the hassle of fighting with the copier!

Happy birthday to Branden McNichols!
