Getting Ready for a New Year!

schoolAre you ready for a new school year?   I’m getting excited to meet my new 7th grade students and my students from last year!

Here are the supplies needed for 7th grade Language Arts at McDowell:  Just two 70-page spiral notebooks, a pocket folder WITH 3 prongs, a highlighter, and of course, PENCILS! ✏️ A box of tissues would also be greatly appreciated and put to good use!

“Digging” Pink!

IMG_5015 (1)Last week, our 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams at McDowell sponsored a PINK day in order to raise breast cancer awareness.  They asked that all students wear pink to show their support for breast cancer victims and donate money for breast cancer research. I’m proud of all my students for sporting their pink!  The volleyball teams collected over $500 to donate to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I’m thankful for our volleyball girls for helping raise this awareness in our school.  Latest studies show that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer.  Let’s hope that with continued research a cure will be found!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is here already!  This year is flying by.  Each of the students wrote a post about what they are thankful for and  I encourage you to read those posts on each of their blogs.

I give thanks each day for my blessings, but since my students shared,  I thought I’d also share some of the things that I am thankful for.

*I am thankful for my husband and best friend, Chris.  He is a super father and an all-around good guy. 🙂

*I am thankful for my daughters, Hannah and Molly.  They are awesome girls- beautiful inside and out and I am very thankful that I was chosen to be their mother.

*I am thankful for my family  and friends-people I know that I can trust and count on.

*I am thankful that I have never experienced true hunger or suffering.

*I am thankful that I can get up every day to go to a job that I love-many people don’t.

*I am thankful that I am now teaching at McDowell- moving to McDowell was definitely one of those “blessings in disguise”.

*And last, but NOT least, I am thankful for each of my students who make me laugh every day and make my day interesting.  🙂 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your time spent with family and friends!

Counting Down!

Just a reminder that June 4 is our last day of school.  That means that we have only FOUR days of school remaining.  The last few days are sure to be fun-filled and will go very quickly!  Coming up this week is the PTO sponsored Fun Day and Family Picnic Day on Tuesday.  (Picnic is from 12-1).  The awards ceremony is also scheduled for Wednesday morning.

We have had many fun activities in the past week.  On Friday, all of the students of Laurelville Elementary walked around town for our Relay for Life.  So far, Laurelville Elementary students have raised OVER $2000 for cancer!!  WOW!  And the money is still coming in!

Fifth graders were also invited to watch the 6th graders pariticipate in their DARE graduation and awards ceremony.   They will be attending sixth grade camp at Camp Oty’Okwa Monday through Wednesday-something they have been looking forward to with great anticipation!  Camp is a great experience  and a culmination of their elementary experience.  Our sixth graders have completed their elementary years at Laurelville 🙁 and will be moving on to McDowell in the fall. We will surely miss them, but we wish them the best!  Fifth graders, I know it’s hard to believe, but that will be YOU before you know it!

Let’s have a GREAT last four days of school! 🙂
